Group of combined buildings forming 1 house and outbuildings and somewhat
altered from its original lay-out. Late C17 and early C18, and including
a late C18 building on the North side. 2-storeys. The main building is
fronted with chequered brick in red and blue with stone quoins and a stone
slate roof. Moulded wood eaves cornice and stone band. 4 windows with
hung sashes, flush frames. Ground floor has 3 modern bays and a modern
door in an original window opening. South side of the building is of coursed
rubble and forms stabling with loft and stable doors. North side is of
later C18 date, in coursed rubble with stone quoins and stone slates under
a separate roof of flatter pitch, without cornice. Mid-C19 door with moulded
wood doorcase with reeded pilaster strips with sham Doric capitals, plain
fanlight and small hood on brackets with moulded drop pendants. Interior
- has been much altered and retains only a mid-C18 staircase. Indications
of the original door being centrally placed.
Market Cross, Stocks, Nos 35 and 37 with Nos 1 to 3 (consec) Church Passage
form a group.
