Description

ST02NW CHIPSTABLE CP

RADDINGTON

1/13 Rectory Farmhouse
GV II

Rectory now dwelling. Early C19 on site of earlier rectory, refenestrated late C20.
Red sandstone random rubble rendered on facade; slate roof, brick stacks flanking central bay.
Double pile. Two storeys, 3 bays; pointed arch head 2-light casements, central square headed
entrance, rectangular light, half glazed door with pointed arch glazing. Two bay returns.
Said to contain king post roof trusses similar to those at Kingston Farmhouse (q.v). The
pointed arch heads were added in the late 1970s to the existing many paned 2-light casements.
The rectory was sold by the Church Comissioners in the 1970s after the ecclesiastical parish
of Raddington had been incorporated into Chipstable in 1933 (VCH Somerset, V0l V 1985).
