Pair of entrance lodges with attached gates and gate piers. Late C18
with mid-C20 alterations. Grey sandstone ashlar, partly painted.
Roof not visible behind parapet. Pair of small square lodges flanking
gates and gate piers. 2 storeys. Each lodge with plinth, corner
piers with moulded plinths, moulded cornice and parapet with moulded
coping. Round-arched recesses to north and south with fluted impost
band and moulded architrave. Round-arched glazing bar sash to south.
2-bay inner returns with first-floor 3-light wooden casements, 4-panelled
door to south (lower 2 flush) and blind doorway to north. Rear of
western lodge with one-storey lean-to and integral lateral brick stack.
Eastern lodge with C20 alterations including raised parapet, cornice
broken by C20 casements, and large 2-storey addition at rear. Central
wooden carriage gate flanked by smaller wooden pedestrian gates.
Square stone gate piers, and half piers attached to lodges, each with
moulded plinth, fluted frieze and pyramidal cap. Interiors not
inspected. These were formerly the north entrance lodges to Hawkstone
Hall (q.v.). Lodges are shown in this location on an estate map of
c.1795. North Lodge is the address of the two lodge buildings.
