Gates, gatepiers and railings. 1850. Designer John Norton, Cast iron. Gates: double gates, standards with simple
finials, horizontal bars topped with draped chains and reinforced with curved cross piecas. Gatepiers; pierced with
quatrefoils and trefoil headed lozenges, fleur de lys finials. Railings: fleur de lys, headed standards, 5 horizontal
bars topped with draped chain, fronting rain entrance to St. Audries (qv) and returned in Scuth side, about 2000 metres
in all. Railings identical in design to those fronting the Church of St Ethel Dreda. St Audries estate was originally
enclosed in iron railings of this design (VCH Somerset, Vol.5 forthcoming).
