Grotto. Circa 1830s or 1840s; possibly by Richard Carver of Taunton. Random rubble of assorted local stones and inset ammonites, almost completely obscurred by ivy at time of survey(August 1983). Roughly oval in plan, entrance on East front, lit West and South fronts. Pointed arched windows with damaged tracery, externally completely obscurred by ivy, entrance reached up irregular flight of 4 steps, past ledge serving as a seat to left of entrance, patterned pebble threshhold similar to one inside grotto, pointed arched doorway with octagonal diamond and divided tracery, probably mid C19. Interior only partially viewed -
appears to contain cross-vaulted ceiling with central pendent and subsiduary ones, some terminating in shells. Walls encrusted with shells, including those not found in local waters, also ammonities and mineral samples. Patterned
pebble floor. In generally poor condition at time of survey.
