7/12 The Old Bell

House. C17, heightened in early C18, parlour extended into lower barn at
N in C19 as club room to PH, became a house c.1957. Timber frame on
black stuccoed sill, dark weatherboarded, rear roughcast with dripboard
between floors. Steep thatched roofs, barn hipped at W, house
half-hipped. Thatched lean-to at E and slated weatherboarded extension
at SE with monopitch. A 2-storeys, 3-cells, internal chimney, lobby
entry plan house facing S with chimney a third from W, stair in entrance
lobby, and E external gable chimney with oven projection. Parlour
chimney backing onto main chimney added later. Rear outshut to hall and
E service bays. S front has 3 windows, with flush casement windows,
2-light above and 3-light below, with tiled porch to door in front of
chimney. Boarded doors to lower barn at W end. Interior has exposed
timbers, axial beam supporting floor over hall but axial joists over E
service end, large open fireplace in hall with chamfered brickwork,
clasped purlin roof, straight tension braces in outshut, moulded plank
door with old iron hinges, 2-panel raised and fielded door to club room.
Clasped purlin roof and flat rafters in barn. Formerly the Bell Inn.
