in the mid-to late C19. Timber framed with painted brick nogging,
partly underbuilt, rebuilt and extended in brick, painted to front. Cross
wing with planted timbers to first floor. Plain tile roof. Framing:
small square panels. Baffle-entry hall range of 2 framed bays with
projecting gabled cross wing to right of 2 framed bays. One-storey
and attic with cross wing of 2 storeys and attic. Brick ridge stack
off-centre to right, integral brick end stack to left and integral
brick end stack to rear of cross wing, all with C19 square shafts.
Pair of gabled semi dormers to hall range with 2-light wooden casements.
Hall range also with central small 2-light wooden casement beneath eaves
and 2 ground floor C19 wooden mullioned and transomed windows, of 2 and 3
lights. Cross wing with small 2-light C19 attic casement, first-floor
2-light C19 wooden casement and ground-floor C19 square bay with 3-light
wooden casement and lean-to roof. C19 lean-to porch in angle of cross
wing with Tudor arch and boarded door with 3-part rectangular overlight.
Right-hand return front of cross wing of 3 bays with one-and 2-light
wooden casements. C19 gabled staircase wing at rear with integral brick
end stack. Interior: central ground-floor room with large open fireplace,
C17 panelling, and deeply-moulded ceiling beam with evidence of former
further intersecting moulded beam and bars. Left-hand ground-floor room
with chamfered beams and some moulded joists. C17 two-panelled back
door. Exposed front-hall framing in left-hand first-floor-room with
notched lap joint, evidence of former angle brace. Roof over hall
range rebuilt in the C19 with king post trusses, but probably reusing
some timber. Interior of cross wing not inspected. At the time of
survey (January 1987) the chamfered oak lintel from the former fireplace
in the left-hand ground-floor room was lying on the ground to the left
of the house.
