House. C18, altered and extended 1818 for Sir Francis Willis. Grounds
extended 1820 over disused Quaker graveyard to S. House traditionally
said to have served formerly as meeting house. Red brick in Flemish-bond
and red rubbed flat arches. Hipped roofs of red tile. Slate roofs to
link on S and to stable block. A large 2-storeys and attics house set
back from road on a rise facing E with a double-pile plan and projecting
wings. Tall rectangular coach house block linked by lower stable to SE
corner. Lower rectangular service block attached to N with twin hipped
roofs. Symmetrical E front with 2 box dormers behind parapet to recessed
centre. Shaped brackets to plastered soffit of wide eaves all round. 3
windows wide front with sash windows, small panes. Triple sashes of 2/2:
6/6:2/2 panes. Central entrance with wide segmental arched head over
fanlight, narrow side-light and moulded 6-panels door up 2 moulded stone
steps. Reeded frame with corner blocks. Narrow single-light window in
angle on each floor. (Inf Mrs. Rance).
