4/15 Gate-piers with gates on
driveway approximately
50 metres north-east of
Farnley Hall

GV II

Inner and outer pairs of gate-piers, with gates. C18 and C19. Ashlar and
gritstone, wrought-iron gates. Inner piers: approximately 4 metres high,
square in section with pilaster against outer face. Chamfered plinth and
moulded collar, deep cornice with ball finial, the left one fallen. Outer
piers: approximately 2.5 metres high, square in section. Chamfered plinth,
roll moulding below deep cornice and ball finial over. Gates: outer single
leaves and inner double leaves. Heavy bars with 3 flat rails imitating
strap hinges with scroll tendrils. Top edges ramped. One or both pairs of
gate-piers probably came from Hawksworth Hall and were erected in the C19,
when the gates were added.
