House, now 3 houses. C16 former open-hall house, inserted floor and
chimney in hall dated by '1632' inscribed on gabled dormer window. W
crosswing c.1660, late C17 N wing, late C18 rear wall chimney to centre
probably when split into 3 houses. Late C20 W extension to W end. Timber
frame infilled with red brick (painted at No. 1) with steep old red tile
roofs. A 1½ storeys W range facing S (Nos. 2 and 3) comprises a former
2-bays hall with open hearth, storeyed bay to W, stair in NW corner and
cross passage at E end. A large C17 chimney backs onto the cross-passage
and has 3 tall diagonal shafts above the roof. It has a large and a
smaller gabled dormer at the eaves with leaded casements. Irregular
casements to ground floor. C17 W crosswing (No. 1) provided a new heated
parlour and chamber and attics over. One window to each floor in S gable
and to attic. Small-pane Yorkshire sliding casements. C20 gabled porch,
leaded windows and large gabled dormer on W side. Wide ground floor
fireplace in No. 1 has 3-centred moulded head and joints. This room has
ovolo moulded beam with hollow and nicked stops. Cavetto and ovolo
moulded bracket at E end. 4-centred moulded fireplace to chamber over
and ovolo moulded beam. Clasped-purlin roof with cranked windbraces.
Hall range has long curved windbraces to clasped-purlin roof and edge-
halved scarf with bridled butts in rear wallplate. (RCHM Typescript).
