Farmhouse. Late C16, C17 E crosswing and gabled rear extension, C19
front and rear outshut, 1880 brick rear extension to crosswing and large
E parlour block, C20 glazed porch. Timber frame, red brick casing, plum
brick E block and rear extension to E crosswing. Steep old red tile
roofs, hipped E block. A 2-storeys, 3-unit, lobby-entry plan house
facing S, with large internal chimney next gabled, taller E crosswing
projecting to front, and gabled rear service wing behind chimney. C19
rear outshut, 2-storeys gabled rear extension to crosswing with higher
ceiling heights, and tall 2-storeys E block at higher level on E end. S
font irregular, brick front to older W part has 2 windows on each floor,
3-light flush casements with small panes and cambered arches to ground
floor. Very large square chimney. Glazed single-storey porch to former
lobby entry. Higher gabled crosswing with recessed sash window with 3/3
panes on 1st floor. Porch extends across front. Higher hipped E block in
plum brick has large external projecting chimney in middle of S side
flanked by gabled 1st floor windows with narrow recessed sash windows
with 2/2 panes in raised red brick surrounds. Brick labels to 2 tall
narrow sash windows on ground floor. Large canted bay on E end of this
block with sash window of 3/3 panes on 1st floor. Interior has exposed
framework of rear wall exposed for full height, jowled posts, mortices
for braces to tie-beams, clasped-purlin roof on collar-and-queen-strut
trusses with straight wind-braces. Heavy straight braces in wall.
Squint-butted scarf joint in wallplate. Remains of wall painting on
faces of beams across each end of former middle room on W of chimney,
with cellar under. White foliate design on reddish ground. Axial
chamfered beams with hollow stops. Panelled C18 corner cupboard against
stub of cross partition on W repeated by cut sill-plate and holes for
wattle and daub infill between mortices for studs. Undivided W end room
suggests this was originally the upper-end and that the C17 E crosswing
replaced the original service-bay. Very high room on ground floor of E
block with bedroom over partly in roof. Fireplace with corner blocks and
paterae in office to rear of E crosswing. Dairy in ground floor of C17
rear extension.
