Low Broom House Farmhouse

Farmhouse, perhaps originally a longhouse. Early C18, raised later in C18, with
other alterations. Roughly-coursed sandstone; added upper courses more evenly
tooled. Pantiled roof with stone copings and kneelers, tiled ridge, stone and
brick stacks. Hearth-passage plan. Main house 2 storeys, 3 bays. Downhouse at
left 1 storey and attic 1 wide bay. Set back 1-storey 1-bay outhouse. Passage
door at right of downhouse, and another door at left, both C20 with upper
glazing. C20 small-paned casement between; low 3-paned attic window. Main
house has blocked (or false) doorway, to right of centre, and late C19 sashes in
wood box frames, those on ground floor under tooled lintels. House has block
kneelers and stone end chimneys, the right part rendered; downhouse has rebuilt
brick ridge stack and another at front left. Outhouse at left has stable door
and 6-pane window. Interior: ground floor beamed throughout. Fire beam still
in situ in houseplace,but spice cupboard moved to blocked fire-window place.
Some 2-panelled cupboards and a late Georgian bedroom fireplace.
