House.Early C18 with later additions and alterations including extension to range to rear and early C20 wings.Pinkish-brown narrow brick in English bond with red brick and ashlar dressings and Welsh slate roof.Central hallway plan with range to rear.Three-storey,Seven-bay centre with Two-storey,Three-bay wings.Step to central entrance an eight-fielded-panel door with overlight in eared architrave with keystone.Twelve-pane sashes to ground and first floors that above door within keyed eared architrave.Four-pane Yorkshire sashes to second floor.All windows with ashlar sills and flat arches of red rubbed brick,now mainly rendered.Floor bands.Low parapet.Staircase window to rear of twelve fixed panes with radial glazing to head and under round arch of gauged brick.Two-span roof,ridge and side stacks.Interior retains mainly early C18 features including openwell staircase with two column-on-vase balusters per tread,ramped and wreathed handrail.Moulded architrave to staircase window with Corinthian pilasters;decorative frieze and cornice to staircase hall.Ceiling panelling with Greek key motif,with acanthus modillions.Panelling to most first-floor and two front ground floor rooms,that to has alcove with shaped shelves,mainly eight-fielded-panel doors throughout.Closed string dog-leg service staircase to rear range has sturdy vase balusters.Pevsner N,Yorkshire,York and The East Riding,1978,pp 341-2.
