(Description formerly included No 13 MAIDEN LANE) One block facing West across
the East end of the street. Circa 1765 and earlier. 2 storeys and attics in ashlar.
Modillion eaves cornice and small parapet with 3 stone urns and a ball finial.
Mansard roof of stone slates. Stone capped gable ends. No 25 has 2 dormers.
One 2-storey canted bay of 3 lights with urn finial. One window to right. Urn
finial to right hand quoin. C19 carved door under semi-circular glazed fanlight,
open pediment. Plinth. No 26 is slightly lower than other. 2 hipped dormers.
Same cornice with modillions and parapet. Roof not mansarded. 3 windows beneath
3 panels, centre has moulded stone surround and triple keystone, hung sashes with
glazing bars. 2 windows on ground floor. C19 door in architrave with open pediment
and semi-circular fanlight. Plinth. Iron foot scraper. Elevation of No 26 on
St George's Square (North) has a recessed centre between 2 projecting wings linked
by wall with entrance door. The centre is 2 storeys with central Venetian window
on 1st floor under open modillioned pediment which breaks eaves line. One segmental
and one gabled dormer. 2 flanking windows in shouldered architraves. One window
below band flanked by 2 segmental blocked recesses now fenestrated, Garage section
projects to right. Early C19. Hipped Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys in ashlar.
2 windows to side, hung sashes with glazing bars, above door and window. One casement
window with glazing bars to street above garage doors in segmental architrave with
keystone. Interior of No 26 has a good panelled ground floor room with wall cupboards
and original chimneypiece.
Nos 2 to 26 (consec) form a group.
Also forms a group with No 13 Maiden Lane.
Also forms a group with Nos 1 to 7 (consec), Nos 9 to 12 (consec), Outbuilding
to No 12 and Nos 14 to 22 (consec), St George's Square.
