TL 60 NW WILLINGALE Rowes Farmhouse Nos 1
6/6 and 2
II
Farmhouse, now cottages, c.1610, timber framed and plastered and of two storeys.
An 'L' shaped block with half hipped peg tile roof with a lower service block
at the north-east corner. Gable end stack at west end and tiny ridgeline stack
towards west end. Very large red brick stack of late C17 on north wall of main
block and through roof of service block, with inglenook below. Service block
has red brick lean-to on west side with slate roof. Massively framed house
with mixture of jowled and unjowled posts, of 4 bays, with heavy side purlin
roof supported on square queen posts with big curved wind bracing. Bridging
joists and posts are heavily stop-chamfered. Curiously there is no evidence
for an original chimney stack. Service block appears to be extension of mid
C17.
