3/185 Old Bridwell
-
GV II
House. Early C16 with later alterations and extensions, recently converted back
into a dwelling after a long period of dereliction. Plastered cob, with stone
footings, some brick and rubble, asphalted gabled-end roof. Formerly a 3-room,
through-passage plan, the lower end to the right of the passage and rebuilt in the
C19; and with a rear inner room wing. Axial stack backing onto passage; end stack
to wing; both with brick shafts. 2 storeys.
Front: 3-window range, 3-light windows to first floor under eyebrow eaves and a
first floor door approached by external flight of stone stairs. One 3-light window
to ground floor.
Rear: with one window of 2 lights and another of 3 under eyebrow eaves, with 2 of 2
lights and a door below; inner face of wing with windows of 1, 2 and 3 lights, a
blocked door to first floor reached by external flight of stairs, and in the angle a
blocked C16 doorway, pointed, mitred and pegged. All casements appear to be C20.

(information from Simon Timms DCC); hall with chamfered ceiling beams, with scroll
stops; and a pointed doorway arch that is all that remains of the screen between
