Cockpit. Circa 1811, re-erected and restored 1979. Brick with tiled pyramidal
roof. Square plan. One storey, two entrances with semi-elliptical heads,
the roof is capped by a ball finial. Interior: complex roof structure,
basically a central king-post with raking struts supporting rafters. The
walls are entirely new, using reclaimed C19 bricks; the main interest lies
in the extremely fine roof structure which was dismantled in 1976.
The asset was previously listed twice also at List entry 1367862. This entry was removed from the List on 3rd February 2016.
This entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 4th February 2016.
