17/94 The Merchant's House
GV II
House. Late C15, re-erected and restored 1967. Timber-frame with rendered
infill and tile roof. T-plan, cross-wing at upper end, two-bay hall including
through-passage, service bay not re-erected. Cross-wing: two storeys; one
window: four lights to each floor, unglazed; hall range: two tier, 4-light
window to left, small window to right lighting chamber, entrance to through-
passage to right has a restored depressed ogee head. Framing: cross-wing
jettied with widely spaced studding, curved tension braces to ground floor,
and braces to tie above; truss has two curved raking struts and a vertical
strut below the cambered collar, with V-struts in apex. Hall range wall is
two rectangular panels high. Interior: the hall is half-floored over, with
a smoke hood against the through-passage. Removed from the corner of Station
Street and Worcester Road, Bromsgrove in 1962.
