Upper House Farmhouse

Farmhouse. C17, with later C18 and late C19 remodelling. Timber-framed
earlier house with part wattle-and-daub and part painted brick infill;
C18 re-facing in painted sandstone rubble and C19 remodelling and refacing
in red brick; part, Welsh slate and part imitation slate roof. L-plan with
rear service wing and projecting stair turret; large axial stack at junction
of main wings, further later gable-end stack to south and lateral stack to
north wing. Two storeys and cellars and single-storey and attic to service
wing. West front refaced with brick; gable-end of wing to left with 3-light
casement window, ledged door and 6-pane casement window to ground floor, gable
with 3-light casement window to right and gabled canopy over 6-panelled door
below; two 3-light casement windows to right with French casement window to
ground floor right. Three and four square panelled timber-framing is revealed
to rear, partly obscured by sandstone rubble facing. Interior: wooden octagonal
newel to stairs with renewed treads and risers, large open fireplace with
chamfered jambs and lintel in main room; further chamfered ceiling beams
in ground floor rooms.
