GV II
House, c.1600, altered in C17, C19 and C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed
with handmade red clay tiles. 4 bays aligned NE-SW, with axial chimney stack
in second bay from NE, and C20 external chimney stack at SW end. Single-storey
extension to NE bay, forming a catslide roof, C18/19. C20 flat-roofed
extensions to NW and SW of main range. Single storey with attics. Half-glazed
door at front of tiled gabled porch, C20, 3 C20 casment windows, and 3 more
in gabled dormers. The main stack has grouped diagonal shafts. The interior
has jowled posts. All the floors are inserted in the early C17, with chamfered
axial beams with lamb's tongue stops, and plain joists of vertical section
supported on pegged clamps. In the front of the NE ground-floor room there
are 2 blocked windows, each with an ovolo mullion, early C17. There is an
inscription 'EB 1769' in the plaster inside the middle dormer. The SW end of
the roof has been damaged by fire. RCHM 24.
