House, formerly a farmhouse. Early C18 and C19. C18 red brick
with lighter red brick dressings, C19 gault brick, some exposed
timber frame in rear wing with red brick nogging. Plain tile
roofs. Two storeys with attics and basement; double pile plan
achieved after C19 addition to original L-plan. Five
symmetrical 'bays'. Moulded brick cornice with swan-necked
pediment to original doorway, six-panelled door and rectangular
fanlight with patterned glazing bars; hood with soffit panels
and dentil cornice supported on modern brick jambs. Four,
ground floor twelve-paned hung sash windows with key blocks to
flat gauged brick arches; five similar first floor windows.
Tumbled brick parapet gables with end stacks, dentil and moulded
brick eaves cornice. Interior details C19; original ground
floor plan of hall and parlour partitioned for C19 staircase
hall. The farmhouse was formerly known as Chantry Farmhouse and
is said to have been built with 6,000 bricks from Scarborough.
