House. Dated 'ID 1612 ED', on lintel to blocked door, built for James
Disbrowe (d.1638) and his wife Elizabeth. Exposed timber-frame with plain
tile roofs and plastered plinth. Two storeys and attics; main range with
integral crosswing to south, gabled stair turret in angle of rear elevation
with blocked entrance; main entrance in original cross passage position.
Lower range to south, partly enclosing the crosswing, originally single
storeyed. Rendered bay window to full height of north elevation, a restored
original feature. East elevation. Close-studded timber-frame with internal
bracing and bressumers at floor levels; crosswing jettied at eaves height
with side purlin roof. Window replacements in original openings; two ground
floor, three first floor and one attic casement windows with one original
ovolo-moulded mullioned six-light window at first floor. Boarded door.
Interior. Spiral staircase with octagonal newel post, framed ceilings with
primary and secondary cross-beams with ovolo-moulding and chamfered detail,
Blocked doorways (RCHM) suggest original arrangement of rooms. Two large
open hearths. Large ponds to the south are thought to be part of a water
