House. 1630 on datestone but with extensive additions and
alterations of subsequent dates. Rendered brick with slate
roof. 3 bays with 2 and 3 storeys. Bays 2 and 3 are gabled
and constitute the 1630 building. All the window openings
appear to be C19 with C20 casements. The original door in
bay 2 has been blocked and a C20 door and porch added to the
right return. The principal features of interest are
internal and include deep ovolo-moulded beams with stepped
stops on both ground and first floors, a dogleg stair with
closed string, octagonal newel and tapering finials, and a
painted legend in the principal chamber: "Who can find a
virtuous woman etc.", Proverbs 31 verses 10 and 11, dated
1647.
