Farmhouse. Early - mid C17, maybe earlier core, some C19 alterations and modernised
in 1987. Plastered cob and local stone rubble; cob or stone rubble stacks topped
with C20 brick; thatch roof.
Plan: 5-room plan house facing south-west. At the right end is the parlour and
next to it is the hall or dining room. Between them is an axial stack serving back-
to-back fireplaces with a lobby entrance in front of the stack. To left of the
hall/dining room is an unheated dairy or buttery, then the kitchen with an axial
stack backing onto the dairy/buttery, and, at the left end is an unheated service
room. Since no full internal inspection was possible at the time of this survey it
is not possible to ascertain the historic development of the house. From what was
seen this appears to be a single phase early C17 house, either a lobby entrance plan
house or a central service room plan house. 2 storeys with secondary outshots
across the rear.
Exterior: irregular 4-window front to the house and extra ground floor windows to
the left service room, all late C19 and C20 casements, some with no glazing bars.
Both front doorways contain late C19 - early C20 plank doors, the right one behind a
contemporary thatch-roofed porch. Roof is hipped both ends.
Interior: was not available for inspection at the time of this survey although some
early - mid C17 carpentry detail was seen in the kitchen and the hall/dining room.
Both have stone rubble fireplaces with cranked and chamfered oak lintels. The
kitchen has a chamfered axial beam and the dining room has a chamfered and scroll-
stopped crossbeam. More C17 carpentry is suspected
