House. Mid - late C19, probably an earlier core. Plastered cob and stone rubble;
stone rubble and brick stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick; slate roof.
Plan: double depth plan house facing west-north-west, say west. The principal
rooms are those on the front, one either side of a large central entrance hall which
contains the main stair. The left room has an end stack and the right room has an
axial stack. The kitchen is rear right and has a rear lateral stack. There is a
second doorway on the left end and a corridor connects this doorway to the entrance
hall. There is a solid axial wall between the front and rear rooms which suggests
that there is here the shell of an earlier house which occupied the front part.
House is 2 storeys.
Exterior: regular but not symmetrical 3-window front. There are canted bay windows
either end at ground floor level; these may be secondary. The central ground floor
window is a C20 replacement casements but the first floor windows are original
casements with glazing bars. The front doorway is left of centre and contains the
original 6-panel door and doorcase which includes scrolled consoles. In front is a
C20 flat roofed porch of moulded concrete. The left end wall includes a C19 sash
with margin panes and there is another to rear.
Interior: contains C19 joinery and other detail.
The Old Manor is one of an attractive group of listed buildings in the vicinity of
the church of St. Andrew (q.v).
