Farmhouse and attached pound house. Circa late C17 or early C18 extended in circa
mid C19. Rendered and painted stone rubble. Rag slate roof with gable ends and
hipped end to pound house on right. Projecting end stack with brick shaft on left
and brick axial stack to right of centre.
Plan: Earlier range on left comprising farmhouse of double depth plan; central
entrance flanked by two principal rooms heated by end stacks. Stair in two-storey
projection to rear of passage flanked by two narrow service rooms in single storey
outshuts to right and left. The ground slopes down to right and the house was
extended with a one-room plan extension on the lower right hand end in probably the
mid C19 and then further extended, again on the lower right hand end with a C19 pound
house.
Exterior: Two storeys. Regular 3:1:1 window front with earlier range on left and
ground sloping down to right. Original house has an almost symmetrical front with
central C19 panelled door with slate hood flanked by an early C19 20-pane hornless
sash on left and 24-pane sash on right. First floor also with early C19 sashes of
16-panes. C19 extension to right has a 20-pane sash on ground floor and 12-pane sash
above, both early to mid C19. Pound house to right has a plank door with C20 2-light
casements on ground and first floor. Stair projection to rear of passage has slate
hung sides and continues up to second storey above the lean-to slate roofs of the
flanking single storey outshuts.
Interior: Interior of farmhouse not inspected. The pound house retains its C19 apple
press.
