9/293 Bridgetown Aqueduct
-
GV II
Aqueduct for Bude Canal over stream (Tala Water). Circa 1838 or 9. Stone rubble with
renewed brick segmental arch. The parapet on the south side is constructed of stone
rubble.
The narrow aqueduct was considerably overgrown at time of inspection and the
construction of the banks to the canal is uncertain.
The Bude canal was opened in 1823. The first aqueduct however, was swept away by
floods in 1838 and this aqueduct is a replacement.
Rendell, J. The Storey of the Bude Canal, 1987.
