House, formerly farmhouse. Late C16, possibly earlier, partly rebuilt in C20.
Plastered cob on rubble footings; stone and brick chimney stacks; C20 slate roof
(formerly thatch). Traditional 3-room and through passage plan but lower end and
passage (north-east end) completely rebuilt. 2-storeys throughout. On south-east
front, 3 windows on each floor left of massive projecting lateral stack to hall,
built of volcanic, stone. Mostly Cl9 and C20 casements but some are earlier. 2
chamfered mullions have been removed from C12 window close to hall stack on first
floor. Other early wooden windows survive in gable end (left of stack on ground
floor) and north-west side (centre first floor window). Hall has large C16
fireplace of volcanic stone with oak lintel and deep chamfered cross beams with
step stops. Inner room with probably C18 brick fireplace and plain-chamfered elm
ceiling beam. Early roof timbers said to survive.
