House. 1636 on datestone, with mid C18 rear wing. Remodelled in early C19.
Orange brick (with some overfired bricks) in irregular English garden wall
bond, slate roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays 2:1:1. Ground floor: door of 4
bolection-moulded panels with overlight; 4-pane sashes with sills. All
openings under segmental brick arches. C20 garden door to extreme left.
First floor: 4-pane sashes with sills under segmental brick arches.
Dentilled brick eaves cornice, external end stacks with offsets (rebuilt to
upper levels), plain close verges. The left and right gables have a
chamfered brick plinth and first and attic floor band. A brick with the
date 1636 cut into it is incorporated into the right gable at first floor
level. Chamfered plinth and first floor band to rear elevation. Interior:
a spine beam, now cased, runs the full length of the house on intermediate
posts. A room to the left of the door has a re-used C16 hollow-chamfered
and roll-moulded bressumer to the fireplace. A room in the rear wing has an
apparently re-set chamfered principal joist with ogee stops. C19 cut string
stair with turned balusters and moulded handrail.
