Almshouses. Dated 1843, for Phoebe Linsdall; later C19 additions to rear
and to flanking walls. Red and yellow brick in contrasting Flemish bond.
Welsh slate roof. Plan: each almshouse has single room and entrance to
front, kitchen outshut to rear. Single storey, 4 windows, flanked by 2-bay
screen walls curved forward towards street. C20 half-glazed doors and plain
overlights, 12-pane sashes in flush wooden architraves, beneath rubbed-brick
flat arches. Central plaque inscribed: LINSDALL'S HOSPITAL
BUILT & ENDOWED
A.D. 1843
Moulded wooden eaves cornice, deep eaves, hipped roof. Large central axial
stack flanked by pair of smaller axial stacks. Screen walls set back to
each side: early inner section has recessed round-arched panel and brick
coping ramped down to square stone-coped pier, board pedestrian gate, later
outer section with brick coping between similar square stone-coped piers.
Interior: 6-fielded-panel doors.
