5/261 Well and stile SW 660301 at
- Trannack Farmhouse
II
Well with nearby trough, and a stile, all part of a Cornish hedge. Granite rubble
and dressed granite.
Built into the north side of a stone and earth wall (a Cornish hedge) is a D plan
well chamber with rubble walls and roofed with granite lintels, at from approximately
2 metres to the right (west) is a cantilevered granite stile constructed of granite
monoliths set into the hedge.
The well house has 3 partly dressed stones framing a small doorway facing north (and
facing Trannack Farmhouse). There are holes drilled into the jambs presumably for
hanging and fastening a door. Between the well house and the stile is an old granite
trough standing on former staddle stones.
Farm well houses are rare in Cornwall and this example is well preserved.
