Watermill. Circa early C19. Granite rubble walls with some dressed granite for
quoins and jambstones. Corrugated iron roof, hipped at the lower end (south east).
Plan: small rectangular mill building with working attic over a basement. The
overshot wheel is in the middle of the north-east side, there is also a small window
at this side under the eaves to light the attic; the doorway to the attic is in the
middle of the north west wall which is built into the bank and the doorway to the
basement is in the-middle of the south-west wall. There are 2 pairs of mill stones
at the north east side of the attic (one top stone missing). The waterwheel is in
situ and fairly complete: wooden spokes, iron rims and wooden buckets.
Interior : virtually complete and unaltered since the C19, with timber structure for
the machinery, all the machinery workings (geared wheels and cogs), floor structure
and roof structure.
Very overgrown at the time of the survey (1986) but seen to be remarkably complete
and notable for its small size. There were many successful watermills in the Cober
valley and 3 others are included in this list.
