House, early to mid C14, originally a range of lodgings,
possibly held by the Knights Hospitallers. Limewashed clunch,
plain tile roofs, local C18 brick chimney stacks. Two storeys
with attics and basement. Five 'bays' originally divided by
buttresses. Three room plan, (central hall with cross-passage
with two-centred arched doorway recently unblocked). North-east
elevation has two ogee-headed doorways at first floor above two,
two-centred arched doorways at ground floor which gave access to
a demolished porch and stair turret. C18 staircase sited in
rear double garderobe extended to form a wing in C18.
South-west elevation has chamfered eaves cornice, plastered
plinth, parapet gables with almost complete garderobe to
north-west and original external stack. Ridge stack to right of
centre and end stack at south-east. Windows at both floor
levels originally of four, trefoiled lights with chamfered
mullions and flat-headed arches are either blocked or replaced
by six first floor, and five larger ground floor flush-framed
hung sash windows. (see RCHM measured drawings). C19
four-panelled door to left hand; doorway to right hand
blocked. Interior has room to north-west complete with C18
panelling and chimney piece, one embattled cornice resited in
passage beside central stack, other carved timbers of C14 date
from Ely Cathedral. Contemporary collar rafter roof.
