TL 56 NE BURWELL MANDEVILLE

4/29 The Manor House

GV II

Manor house. C17, timber-framed, with original two-unit lobby
entry plan. Cased in mid C19 red brick when service wing was
added to north. Original stack rebuilt to create ground floor
passageway. Plain tile roofs. Garden facade. Two storeys,
five symmetrical 'bays'. Five first floor four-paned hung sash
windows, and four garden casement windows. Late C18 raised and
fielded six-panelled door. Interior has fine C18 pine panelling
originally from Arlington Street Piccadilly, and two pine
chimney pieces from Chester Square London. The fine C18 open
string staircase, may also be an import. Scenic wallpaper, Vues
de l'Amerique du Nord' by Zuber, first issued c.1835 is of
note. Some exposed chamfered ceiling beans.
