13/47 The Fountain PH
GV II
Part of rear range of C16 inn, mostly destroyed in a fire in
1900. Timber frame cased in yellow gault brick, early C19, and
part rebuilt in c.1900 incorporating the floor frame of the
original building. Steeply pitched roof. Two storeys. Inside
the floor frame is of substantial scantling and has fine hollow
and roll moulding with foliate stops to the main beam. The
joists which have similar moulding are laid flat. Another room
has early C17 square sunken panelling, partly disturbed and a
fine Shield of Arms of Torel in terracotta and the date 1583.
Below is a good late C17 bolection moulded fireplace surround.
