Farmhouse. Probably C17, partly remodelled and rebuilt in early to mid C19. Stone
rubble and cob, the earlier part of the front wall rendered above ground floor.
Regular slate roof with gable ends. Projecting stone rubble end stack with brick
shaft on left. Stone rubble end stack on right and brick shaft to rear lateral hall
stack.
Plan: Original plan uncertain. The house comprises a main range of 3-room and cross
passage plan with lower end on right heated by an end stack. C19 stair in C19 lean-
to outshut to rear of passage. Hall heated by rear lateral stack and inner room to
left by end stack with dairy directly to rear in shallow rear wing. C19 outshut to
rear of hall.
Although the higher left hand end above the passage appears to have been considerably
remodelled, the front wall rebuilt and the ceilings possibly raised, it is probable
that the C17 house comprised the existing 3-room and passage plan. In the C18 the
lower end appears to have been used as a parlour and by the early to mid C19 the
inner room was probably the kitchen and is larger than the hall.
Exterior: Two storeys. Asymmetrical 4 window front with earlier elevation to right,
rendered above ground floor and rebuilt front wall on left with granite quoins and
brick segmental arches. Complete C19 sashes. Entrance to right of centre has C19
panelled door. Two 20-pane sashes to right with two 16-pane sashes above. Rebuilt
front wall to left with larger window openings. C19 panelled door on left with two
20-pane sashes to right and two 20-pane sashes on first floor.
Interior: Wide passage with Cl9 dog-leg stair to rear in 2 storey outshut. Lower
end, the parlour, has a low C19 plastered ceiling and two late C17 or early C18
raised and fielded panelled doors flanking the later circa C19 fireplace. C19 mantle
shelf to large, partly blocked fireplace heating inner room.
