Farmhouse. Probably early C17. Stone rubble and cob. Rag slate roof with gable
ends. Stone rubble end stack on left and brick shaft to end stack of rear wing.
Plan: Original plan uncertain. The house is built down a shallow slope with the
ground rising to the right. The front range is of two room and through passage plan
heated by end stacks. There is an unheated circa C17 wing to the rear of the right
hand room, close to the passage; this was probably to accommodate a stair which has
since been removed. The wing to the rear of the lower left hand room is also
probably C17, possibly a kitchen wing, heated by an end stack. There is evidence of
considerable rebuilding of the front and left hand side elevations in the C18, C19
and C20.
Exterior: Two storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front elevation with entrance near
centre; C19 plank door with sash to left and 16-pane sash to right. The first floor
has C19 3-light casements to left and to right of centre with a 16-pane sash to
right. The 3-light casement and sash to the right have C17 ovolo moulded timber
lintels. The left hand side elevation of the rear wing has been partly rebuilt,
probably in the C19 with a C17 2-light mullion window with hood mould to left and C20
door to right. Two 3-light casements on first floor. The right hand side elevation
of this wing has two C17 chamfered lintels to two of the first floor windows. The
putative stair projection on the rear has a blocked window part way up the ground
floor with a chamfered granite frame.
Interior: Not accessible. Although modernised (information from owner) it is
possible that several early features have been covered over and may survive insitu.
