House. Late C17 with C18 and C19 additions and alterations. Rendered
brick; Welsh slate, stone slate, pantile and Westmorland slate roofs. Long
southern range with short wing to rear housing staircase, with C18 and C19
extensions to north-east. South facade: 2 storeys, 4 first-floor windows.
Rusticated quoins. Approximately central 6-fielded-panel door beneath
divided overlight in pedimented Doric porch. Original transomed 2-light
casement to left and 2 sashes with glazing bars to extreme left. Sash with
glazing bars to right. First-floor band. First floor: sashes with glazing
bars, that above door in eared surround, all others to its left.
Overhanging modillion eaves course. Hipped roof. 2 ridge stacks. East
facade: 2 storeys, 7 first-floor windows. Two C17 bays to left, early C19
canted bay to centre; and 2-baby C19 section to right. Additional single-
storey bay to extreme right. Left range: 24-pane sashes beneath wedge
lintels. Canted bay: 3 full-length round-headed windows with intersecting
glazing bars to heads in Palladian surround. Right range: inserted glazed
door to left, 2 sashes with glazing bars and pedimented porch to right.
Sash with glazing bars to extreme right. First floor: sashes with glazing
bars throughout. Sill band to canted bay. Overhanging modillion eaves
course. Roof hipped to left with gable coping and shaped kneelers to right
gables of both sections. Pyramidal roof to canted bay. Interior: hall has
closed-string staircase with column-on-pedestal balusters. 3-panel doors.
Massive ceiling beams. Good C18 hob grate. Substantial moulded cornice to
landing ceiling. Dining room and bedroom above both have bolection moulded
panelling. Massive ceiling beams to dining room. Chimney-breast to dining
room has 2 panels flanked by broken pilaster strips. That to bedroom has
original pulvinated fire surround and continuous pilasters. Sitting room:
plain panelling to dado. Eared fireplace with pulvinated frieze carrying
foliage pattern and central plaque. Dentilled cornice. 6-fielded-panel
doors. Massive ceiling beams.
