The mausoleum, built by Cholmley Turner, which in its way is a rather handsome piece of Renaissance work, is octagonal in plan with buttresses at the angles, and is crowned with a high stone pyramidal roof terminating in a large vase. It is lighted by circular windows high up in the wall, the lower part of which has blank recesses and alternate courses of rusticated masonry. Round the outside runs the inscription, 'This Mausoleum was erected 1740 to the memory of Marwood William Turner Esquire the best of sons.' It was rebuilt in 1839, all the old stonework being used.
