House. C17, with later alterations, mainly of C19 and C20. Painted stone rubble,
asbestos slate roof with gable ends, gable end stack with brick shaft to left, front
lateral stack to right with slate weathering and brick shaft.
Plan: 2-room plan, room to left heated by gable end stack and room to right heated by
front lateral stack. Off-centre to left entrance to passage. Room to right larger.
Each room has a stair to rear. Rear right wing, probably of later C17.
Exterior: 2 storeys, ground floor has C20 3-light casement with timber lintel, C20
stable door with wide timber lintel, external stack and 3-light C20 casement. First
floor has gabled dormer to right and left, each with 3-light casement, 6-pane lights
to left and 8-pane lights to right with L hinges. Left and right sides attached to
adjacent buildings. Rear has small lean-to wash house to right. 2-storey wing to
left with 3 casements, one to left formerly door. First floor hs blight casement
with L hinges and 2-light C20 casement. Rear of main house has 3-light casement
lighting stair with L hinges. Half gable end to wing with single storey C20 addition
to end; corner stack to wing with cornice.
Interior: Ground floor now all one room with part of the stud partition between the
passage and the room to left retained. Room to right has unusually high ceiling, one
large chamfered crossbeam, with one lower crossbeam. Rear of room has reconstructed
winder stair, dividing to rear right to give access to the first floor of the rear
right wing. Room to left has winder stair to rear left, with a 2-light casement to
the rear. At first floor, the room to left has wall-plate, 2 later roughly hewn
principal rafters and one truss with curved principals, formerly with threaded
purlin; rest of roof structure not accessible. Rear wall has blocked fireplace,
formerly had a flue heating only the first floor chamber. Room to right has boxed
beams. The rear wing is of 2-room plan with a passage along the right side.
