House, ground floor converted for commercial use. Late C18. Red brick,
with colourwashed render to basement. Shallow hipped slate roof. 4 storeys
on a basement. Front elevation consists of 2 full-height shallow canted
bays. Ground floor has 2 round-headed windows to each bay, the semi-circular
arches of gauged brick with brick keystones. First floor has one Venetian
window to each bay. These have slender engaged columns to outer edges,
paired reeded pilasters separating the 3 lights, and ornamental wood valances
to central lights. Second floor windows are similar to first floor ones,
except central lights are square-headed under curving-sided triangular
pediments. Third floor windows are also similar to first floor ones, except
for being square-headed and directly under eaves. All windows are sashes
with Gothick pointed-arched glazing bars. Central entrance has semi-circular
headed doorway with narrow moulded architrave and plain reveals. This is
framed by engaged Doric columns supporting simple entablature with cornice
hood. 5-panel door, the top panel glazed, with diamond pattern glazing bars.
Semi-circular fanlight with pointed-arched glazing bars similar to windows.
Brick bands at impost level of ground floor windows, and at first and second
floor levels. Moulded timber deep eaves cornice. Doorway is flanked by
plain cast iron railings which extend to outer angles of building to fence off
the basement area.
