GV II

Water mill and cartshed. Early and mid C19. Roughly squared,
coursed stone, brick porch, weather-boarded timber-framing over
cartshed entry, tiled roofs. Single room, 2½ storey mill: 3-bay,
2-storey cartshed. At right angles to road: cartshed opening
full width of gable, undoored, timber lintel over, central boarded
door in weatherboarding over: hipped roof. Leanto against right
return not of special interest. Left return: cartshed plain,
except for 2-light window with iron bars in centre under eaves.
Mill on left, taller: top gable facing road of brick. Single-
storey gabled porch on right, open end, boarded gable, over boarded
door in 2 halves, cambered brick arch. To left window with iron
bars, cambered brick arch. First floor boarded door on left, no
lintel (probably early alteration): opening for window on right,
frame missing, cambered brick arch. Chimney on right gable.
Rear gable: iron frame for overshot wheel survives, doorway to
mill behind, stone wall projecting formerly carrying leat. Window
in gable.
Interior: cog wheels survive on ground floor: above casings for 3
stones and bolting machine. Loft in 2 unequal bays, interrupted
tie-beam truss, no collar, one pair purlins. Cartshed loft
probably originally granary: 3-bays, interrupted tie-beam trusses
with collar and iron bolts, 2 pairs purlins and plank ridge.
