House. J. Hobcraft. 1770-3, rebuilt internally and slightly altered after fire.
South front: grey brick headers, stone quoins and window dressings, plat
bands at cill levels; large triangular pediment over centre 5 bays with stone
coping and circular window in tympanum, and parapet with stone coping. C20
stainless steel roof with 4 stacks. Palladian house with wings set back to right
and left, both reduced from 2 to one storey. 2 storeys and attic; 5 bays with
one bay wing to left and 3 bay wing to right, glazing bar sashes. 2 central half
glazed doors with architrave and plain rectangular fanlight; semi-circular ashlar
porch with 2 steps, 2 Doric columns and pilasters supporting entablature with
fluted frieze and paterae, and dentil cornice. North front: as south front but of
brown brick and circular window in tympanum of pediment with carved swags to right
and left. 13 steps with iron railings to central blocked doorway, now window, with
moulded architrave, and scrolled brackets supporting segmental pediment. Wings set
back to right and left, each with Venetian window. Interior: much rebuilt but
includes some re-used materials from Pendarpes Hall, Cornwall.B.O.E.Berkshire.p.259.
