Mill, miller's house and attached outbuildings. Mill late C16-C17,
bakehouse probably C19, miller's house C17 and C18, outbuildings
C19. Mill; coursed squared and dressed limestone, square panelled
timber framing with brick infill, some weatherboarding especially
at west gable end, stone slate roof, stone stack. Bakehouse;
coursed squared and dressed limestone and corrugated-iron roof,
brick stack. Miller's house; coursed, squared and dressed
limestone, stone slate roof, stone stacks. C19 outbuildings;
coursed squared and dressed limestone, stone slate and slate roof.
Rectangular mill building at centre of complex. C19 bakehouse at
left gable end, miller's house at right gable end, C19 outbuildings
at right angles to mill building. Mill 2½ storeys; C19 plank door
with stone canopy and moulded margin towards right gable end, 2-
light stone-mullioned casement above lighting bedroom. Two clasp-
ing buttresses with offsets left of door hidden by passage dividing
mill from C19 outbuildings. Cast-iron overshot mill wheel under
left gable end. Diamond leaded panes to glazed panel in timber-
framing above, panel above boarded over. Bakehouse left with plank
door, unglazed window left. Miller's house at right gable end; 2
storeys with with projecting 1½ storey. C18 gabled wing projecting
forwards off-centre right. C19 plank door under raking canopy left
of wing, 3-light stone-mullioned casement with stopped hood left of
door, 2-light casement to first floor. Three-light casement with
keystone lintel to ground floor of forward facing gable. Two-light
casement to upper floor, similar casements to bay right of
projecting wing. Former single storey stable (now converted) with
plank door right. All windows C20 casements with horizontal
glazing bars. Stone stack from apex of forward facing gable. C19
outbuildings running south from mill building; one and 2 storeys.
Entrance to passage right, single light with leaded pane left,
plank door to loft formerly reached by stone steps. C19 plank
door to former wash house left, 2-light casement left. Former
earth closet extends back rear left towards mill race, (single light window)
with flat-chamfered stone surround in rear north wall in direct
line of vision with mill wheel. Squinch with similar line of
vision from corner of former wash house. Interior of mill; first
floor contains 2 mill stones and 2 winnowing machines. Storage
bins and chutes on second foor. All machinery and gearing in situ
except driving belts. Interior of bakehouse; flagged floor, 2
openings to brick lined oven still in situ. C19 outbuildings;
washing copper set into corner, stone flagged floors. Mill pool
lies immediately north of mill and house. History: a mill existed
on this site at least as early as the C14 but the site may have
been used for milling purposes before this date.
