Two gatehouses, and attached gate piers and gates probably designed
by Sir John Belcher 1886-98: Gatehouses; coursed squared and
dressed limestone, stone slate roof, ashlar stacks. Walls
connecting gatehouses to gate piers and wall right of right-hand
gatehouse; coursed squared and dressed limestone. Ashlar gate
piers, wrought and cast-iron gates. Left-hand gatehouse (as viewed
from garden) square, single unit plan set diagonally to gatepiers,
right-hand gatehouse with similar basic plan with extension on
right. Both gatehouses 2 storeys. C20 plank door with fillets
within 'Tudor'-arched surround with carved spandrels and stopped
hood off-centre right of left-hand gatehouse. Two-light stone-
mullioned casement with cinquefoil-headed lights and stopped hood
to first floor. C20 plank door with fillets within 'Tudor'-arched
surround off-centre right of right-hand gatehouse right of stone
steps up to similar first floor doorway. Two-light cinquefoil-
headed stone-mullioned window with stopped hood right of door,
similar single light left. Single rectangular light with stopped
hood to first floor of extension right. Pyramidal roofs with ball
finials, hipped roof to extension right. Lateral stacks, one
diagonally set. Walls c2m high link gatehouses to gatepiers.
Cappings ramped up at either end. Square piers with fielded panels
and moulded cappings and ornate urn finials decorated with fruit
and flowers and cherub-like heads. Single gate incorporating some
foliate wrought-ironwork. Deer's head at apex of gate. Gatehouse
interiors not inspected.
