II
Lodge, gates and gate piers at eastern entrance to Stowell Park.
Late C19, probably designed by Samuel Belcher. Lodge; limestone
rubble, first floor of house part pebble-dashed, stone slate roof,
stone stack. Ashlar gate piers and subsidiary piers connected to
lodge via limestone rubble wall. Wrought and cast-iron gates.
Lodge rectangular in plan with circular turret at front left-hand
corner. Gates and gate piers attached via short length of wall
left of turret. Wall then curves forward left of left-hand pier,
terminating at a subsidiary pier, similar curving wall and
subsidiary pier right of turret. Lodge; 1½ storeys with upper
floor lit by 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement.
Cotswold dormer facing main road, a small gable at rear. String
between ground and first floor of main body. Turret lit by 2-light
double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements. C19 plank door with
fillets within lean-to porch at left gable end. Octagonal roof
rising to point with ball finial to turret. Gate piers and
subsidiary piers with recessed panels, moulded cappings and ball
finials. Double gates incorporating some foliate wrought-iron
work. Deer's head at apex of left-hand gate. Lodge interior not
inspected.
