Country house, now special school. Later C18 and C19. Flemish brickwork north
front, remainder ashlar or coursed and squared limestone, slate roof. Near
symmetrical main front in 2 storeys and attic and 5 windows, but with short
extended section in stretcher bond brick to left. Ground floor has small canted
bay with hipped roof, left, with 1:2:1 lights to arched heads, then two large
square C20 bays flanking Doric pedimented portico with wide 4-panel door under
decorative transom light. First floor has five 12-pane sashes in reveals;
centre 3 bays stepped slightly forward, with plain pediment, and central opening
in wide blind arch. Stone cornice; parapet and copings. Return right has two
12-pane sashes and two blind openings and a late hexagonal bay with 12-pane
sashes at ground and first floors and a 2-light casement at second floor.
Return left has an oriel window with battlemented top. Back is late C19
addition in 3 storeys and 4 windows, 4-pane sashes. Lean-to conservatory.
Interior much modified in C20; the original entrance hall has decorative frieze
and egg and dart to cornice.
