Dignified ashlar-faced commercial classicism, circa 1900, 2 storeys and dormers,
only 4 windows wide, with oversized but sensitive detailing. Fluted pilasters
between ground floor windows and off-centre doorway support deep entablature
and cornice, with panelled parapet-frieze. Similar pilasters, unfluted, between
1st floor windows support another deep entablature, with triglyphs on frieze
and far-projecting cornice. White-painted dormers with triangular pediments,
set against greenish slate mansard roof and connected by thick cornice along
top of roof. Elaborate ground floor business hall with marble columns and chinneypieces
and high panelling, modernised 1973-4.

Nos 1 to 17 (odd) Pembroke Hotel, Nos 25 to 31 (odd), Nos 39 to 45 (odd) and
Nos 2 to 34 (even) Poole Hill form a group with Nos l66 to 196 (even) Commercial
Road.
