Of origin, altered in C18 and later. Purbeck Stone walls, colourwashed, Purbeck
Stone roof. Brick stacks. Two storeys and attics. Ground floor has entrance door with
flat stone canopy on brackets, and 3 double-hung sash windows. Similar windows to
first floor. Two dormers to attic, one with a pent roof, one with a hipped roof, both
with double-hung sashes. Wrought iron hanging sign under eaves. West of the existing
entrance are signs of an earlier blocked door, and another further west. The building
is raised above pavement level on a terrace with a Purbeck Stone retaining wall and
simple iron railings. Two-storeyed gabled extension at rear, also in Purbeck Stone.
Stone outbuildings at rear - attached to main building. Purbeck Stone walls and roofs.
Single-storey. Probably originally stables, etc. Purbeck Stone boundary wall along
High Street and Townsend Road. Stone gate piers to entrance leading to yard in
Townsend Road. RCHM Monument 43.
