GV II
Chest tomb. Late C18. Siltstone with sandstone quarter balusters
and capping. Cast iron railing. Moulded plinth forming base.
Inscription on 2 sides. South side now illegible, north side
almost illegible. Moulded capping, probably not original. Carved
Tudor roses in ogee shaped arches in lower left and right of
inscription on north. Carved urns in same position on south.
Decorative carving in low relief of Adam and Eve and an angel at
east end and of Joseph's dream; showing Joseph and sheaves of corn
at west end. Railing around tomb with urn finials, some missing.
Tomb similar to Phillips family chest tombs (q.v.) probably by
Francis Ballard. (Edith Brill, Cotswold Crafts, P76-77, 1977).
